各大公司機構都有趣對惡劣天氣安排的規則
但其實大同小異

例如, 來自香港歷史博物節館對於惡劣天氣開放時間
的一些安排便有

 黑雨 ( Black rainstorm warning )

  If the warning is issued before opening hours,
  the Museum will be closed until the warning is cancelled

  至於黃雨 ( yellow rainstorm warning ),紅雨 ( red rainstorm warning ),
  室內的活動應如常了

在打風時 ( Typhoon signal No. 8 or above )
The Museum will be closed and remain closed if the signal is lowered
less than 2 hours before the normal closing time.

至於雷暴警告 ( Thunderstorm warning ), 就只影響在室外的活動

這些警告和颶風訊號, 發出的時候用 issued, 也可以用 hoisted
( the red rainstorm warning is issued, the typhoon signal no.10 is hoisted )
取消的當然可用 cancelled, 亦可以用 lowered
( the red rainstorm warning is cancelled, the typhoon signal no.10 is lowered )

將一個高訊號改為低訊號, 便是 lowered to ...
e.g.
black rainstorm signal is lowered to red
typhoon signal no.8 is lowered to no.3

形容一些人或事 "引人入勝", "很吸引"
最普遍的是用 attracting
e.g. an attracting girl

但亦有其他字, 例如 : absorb
absorb 是吸收, 但引伸為吸引你的注意
所以 absorbing 便是 "引人入勝" 了
e.g.
   an absorbing book, and absorbing game
   an absorbing story, and absorbing movie, ....

另外 : arresting 是 逮捕 / 拘留 的意思
也可以引伸為留住你的注意力
e.g.
   Carol arrests my attention
   She is an arresting girl

我們報章上看到關於打仗的新聞, 很多時都看到 fire 這個字

兩軍開火便是 open fire
e.g.
The troops open fire on rebels

隨此之外, trade fire, exchange fire 也是解作開火

   Egyptian forces exchange fire with Palestinians

   Two Koreas trade fire

戰爭打得久便會停火了, cease fire

   The two sides agree to cease fire and continue the peace talks

   Both sides observed the cease-fire agreement
   ( 雙方遵守停火協議 )

至於標題的 friendly fire, 是指打仗中意外擺烏籠炸錯自己人
( hit by a bomb or weapon that is fired by their own side )

   12 injured by a friendly fire attack
   this is a friendly fire incident

這是不幸中之不幸 !

無名氏, 可用 anonymous 這個字

例如各類的籌款, 捐款者都有很多好心但不要名的人
即無名氏, 即是 anonymous 或 anonymous donor

anonymous 其實很多時都用作一些的人或東西

例如很多好歌的作者都不知是誰, 他們便是 anonymous writer

一些作者不詳的詩詞或書, 便是 anonymous author

革命中犧牲的無名英雄, anonymous hero

又例如你美麗的女友收到花, 但不是你 order 的
便是 anonymous flower order,
當中有一封表示愛意的匿名信, 便是 anonymous letter

很有變化 ....

close call 是 好險 / 千鈞一發 的意思

好險, 生活上都時有出現

例如交通意外
   Carol had several close calls while he was driving last night

   Her car nearly hit the bus
   Now she is safe, but it was a close call

在股票買賣上
   I sold my stock just before the market crashed.
   It was really a close call

在運動比賽中
   ......   close call to win by only 2 points

run wild 直接的意思是亂跑
  e.g.
    Those horses run wild in the forest

但引伸出來的也很有用, 例如

    The student run wild when the teacher leave the classroom
    ( 形容學生失控 )

    The rumors run wild after her on stage kiss with Robert Pattinson
    ( 形容謠言滿天飛 )

隨了負面的形容, 也能正面的
  e.g.
     Let your imagination run wild
     讓你的想像力盡情發揮

今天是端午節, 便想記下這節日的歷史和它的英文

端午節的英文是
Dragon Boat Festival 或是直譯  Duanwu Festival

這個節日風俗習慣, 當然是爬龍舟 ( dragon boat race ) 和
食粽 ( rice dumplings ) 了

為什麼要爬龍舟和造粽 ?

其中一個傳說是要避免投河自殺的屈原的屍體被魚吃掉 ?

爬龍舟是要嚇走魚的
( to scare the fishes away )

粽是給魚吃的, 吃了粽便不會吃屈原了

這個那麼另老伯姓敬愛的屈原 ( Qu Yuan ) 是誰呢 ?

他是戰國時代 ( Period of Warring States ) 楚國的一個愛國的大臣 ( liegeman )
但他卻被其他人讒言 ( slandered ) 後被放逐 ( banished )
後來楚國為秦國所滅, 他在絕望和悲憤之下懷大石投江自盡
時間是五月初五

端午節便是記念屈原的
( to commemorate the death of Qu Yua )

aced 是考第一或考試成績卓越的意思

aced 也可用作形容詞
一流的; 熟練的
a soccer ace ( 一流的足球員 )
an ace technician ( 一流的技術員 )

它亦可是名詞, 例如網球比賽中的 ace 球
( a serve that is not returned because the server's opponent
never touches the ball with their racket )
